Michael has done it! He ran 210.5 Miles of the North Country Trail unassisted. You can help him without breaking a sweat. . .
The main reason I support WaterLegacy is that I’m really against sulfide mining. I feel this area is so rich with water, that it’s just the wrong place to do that kind of mining . . . In other parts of the world, freshwater is more valuable than oil. Yet, we are willing to risk polluting Lake Superior forever. I really want other people to be aware of the good things that WaterLegacy is doing. - Michael Koppy
What did Michael accomplish on the North Country Trail?
Michael Koppy crossed the Wisconsin-Minnesota border and finished all 210.5 miles of Wisconsin’s North Country Trail in 4 days, 14 hours, and 31 minutes – setting the new Fastest Known Time record in the unsupported category!
What is Michael’s goal to raise funds for WaterLegacy?
For Michael, achieving the Fastest Known Time is important. But he has said it is equally important to run in support of a worthy cause. He will be making a sizeable donation and is hoping to raise at least $10,000 for WaterLegacy!
Your funds will help WaterLegacy to protect Lake Superior watersheds. Every dollar will be used to:
- Stop pollution and destruction from PolyMet and other toxic sulfide mines
- Prevent agency rollbacks of Minnesota water quality standards
- Reduce mercury contamination of fish
- Protect wild rice and environmental justice
We have now raised $4,565.82 of our $10,000 goal thanks to a generous donation from Michael Koppy himself! Michael is asking people who value clean water to match his $3,000 donation to WaterLegacy.
